I had the honor of getting to spend the early evening with Caroline and Charlie for their engagement session this past Saturday! First stop was the location of their very first date, Bean Traders in Durham! I just love it when couples choose sentimental locations for their engagement session! After warming up with cups of coffee we headed on over to the American Tobacco Trail for the rest of their session. We truly could not of asked for a more beautiful day. The sun was shining and all the North Carolina fall colors were starting to pop!
These two were such a joy to spend time together with. Caroline’s sweet giggles and Charlie’s soft glances towards his bride to be were heart melting! They are so perfect together. I truly couldn’t be more excited to celebrate with them next fall at their downtown Raleigh wedding!
Caroline and Charlie met at a New Year’s Eve Party in 2014 through mutual friends who they’ve both known for many years. Caroline said it was a rather depressing year for the both of them so neither were particularly thrilled about going to said party. But they are so glad they did because they finally crossed paths there. And it turns out that two of their friends were plotting to pair them up! After several dates over late night coffee, local tasty eats, and a group ski trip (where one of them literally fell into the other’s arms like in a cheesy Hallmark movie). They just knew they couldn’t part ways and Caroline and Charlie been together ever since!
These two went to D.C. for a long weekend early November of last year. The trip was primarily planned around seeing a comedy show though Charlie had used it as a cover. Prior to the proposal, the beginning of the trip was a little chaotic. From being a little late to the airport (since Charlie had to a last minute “errand”) to the fire alarms going off at the hotel early Friday morning. And then finding out their dog was sick while they were on the trip, they were both a little frazzled.
It wasn’t until later in the afternoon on Friday that Charlie suggested that they walk around the National Mall. When they walked to the center of the park between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial, they stopped nearby the Smithsonian Castle. Caroline cheekily said something about the Castle being “Charlie’s” since his last name is Smith and they both started laughing. Then Charlie had this infectious silly grin on his face and said, “This seems like the perfect time.” He knelt on the ground and pulled out a small box, asking if Caroline would marry him. It took a solid minute before she was able to process what was happening and then she finally answered, “Oh, YES!”
Congratulations Caroline and Charlie, I am so incredibly happy for you two! Enjoy these favorites from your session!
